2009 Fish Lake - Year 5

Travis's turn to pick our destination. Fish Lake sounds like a good place to catch fish right?!?
Reports were that fishing was good so we were pumped. They also pull lake trout over 25 lbs out of this lake every year. (Mackinaw as they are called.)

Dad secured a cabin for us to stay in at the Hansen's in a nearby town. That was excellent. Josh and I drove up in my car. We stopped in a little stream and josh caught two decent brookies that we cooked and ate that night. Trav and Dad drove up in the green T100 earlier in the day and Jay drove down early friday morning.

Dad also rented us a pontoon boat. It was aswesome as well. Large and comfortable.
The temperature was also great.

The only thing that wasn't spectacular this year was the fishing. (No suprise as our luck is almost always bad.)
We spent all day on the lake 7 to 7. Total tally?
Josh 3 trout 2 small perch.
I caught 3 trout. And yes the largest as well by a small margin.
Dad 2 small perch.
Trav one trout in the last half hour of the day.
Jason? He got skunked.
He spent most of the day trying to catch one of the giant lake trout at the bottom which gave him less chance of catching the smaller fish that we were getting.
In the stream on the way home I got two more babies, Trav got one and Josh got one more.

Awards
Largest fish - Dustin Yippee. (Only 18 inches.)
Most fish - Josh - 8 Total
Smallest fish - Dad
Least fish - Jay - Zero
I must say it was not as disappointing as Lake powell last year. I definitely relearned that it is not about the fish we are catching but the time spent together. We had a ton of fun.

2008 Lake Powell - Year 4

Josh's Turn to Plan and he LOVES Lake Powell.

So I borrowed my buddy Rick Miles' boat and we headed for what was supposed to be the hottest trip of our lives.

My neighbor had gone done the week before and caught over 50 stripers in one night with 2 of his buddies. He told me all the tricks and we were stoked. Unfortunalty we brought the Woodbury fishing luck and didn't fare nearly as well. (My buddy caught 50 again the week after we went.)

All in all we did decent. We each caugh half a dozen or so. All pretty big lake fish.

Dad took home the biggest fish prize. We're remembering it at 24 inches. First time Josh didn't win. (We need a trophy.) We camped on a private beach across the bay. We fish at the damn and up and down several canyons. It was pretty. We need to do this one again before long.

Looking back this was fun. But if we remember acurately,(always hard to do after time passes) it was one of our most disappointing because our expectations were so high. At the end we were so bummed that we talked about canceling the tradition all together.

2007 Scofield Lake - Year 3

Jason's Turn to plan and he picked Scofield Lake.

Fishing was moderate. We all caught a decent amount between the lake and the creek below it.

Travis was recently returned from his mission.

Josh got the biggest fish for the third straight year.

I don't know looks about 21 inches???

We camped in an actual campground this year which worked out fine.

2006 Otter & Piute - Year 2

We decided to take turns being in charge of the trips. We counted Kolob as Dad's turn and now it would be mine and then on down the age order. We'd heard from several people how hot Otter Creek was so that's where I choose. It was still good fishing when we got there, everone who had a boat was slaying them. Catching LARGE quantities of BIG fish. Unfortunatly we were stuck on the shore and caught nothing at either lake. Our only saving grace were the creeks up the canyon. We each caugh a handful of small brookies. Josh caught the ugly trash fish you see which happened to be the largest of the year again. What do you think? 16 inches? Travis was gone on his mission this year we missed him. We used the old popout camper that Kathryn's parents gave to us. Hanging together by bailing wire and such it worked nicely for us.

2005 - Kolob - Year 1

This was our first year. We threw it together at the last minute so Kolob was our best option. Unfortunatly we can't find any pictures of it yet. Maybe some will show up some day.

All of us came that year, it was right before Travis' mission.

That year the Damn had overfowed big time. There were TONS of fish in the creek and we all caught a lot!!!

Of course we tried to catch some at the lake and like always were skunked.

Josh caught the biggest fish, around 16 inches.

All in all a good successful start to our tradition.
